THE Sprintcar Allstar Championship took a turn
south for the Victorian competitors at Redline
Raceway on Saturday night.
South Australian drivers took out the trifecta
in the A-main final at the Buninyong Speedway,
as the penultimate round of the 360 Sprintcar
series unravelled for the home state’s top
contenders.
Chad Ely, from Salisbury Heights north of
Adelaide, won the A final convincingly, ahead of
fellow Croweaters Mark Caruso and Colin Brooks.
Chris Solomon, who won the previous round at
Redline Raceway, was fourth.
Top Victorian contender Tony Moule, meanwhile,
had to settle for ninth on the night after
starting from the back of the grid in the
shortened finale. Moule had to qualify for the
final through the B-main final after he flipped
his car in his heat.
Fellow Victorian title hope Brad Foster crashed
on the first lap, adding to the home state’s
woes.
Caruso (1748 points) extended his championship
lead ahead of the ninth and final Sprintcar
Allstar round on April 9 at Mt Gambier, while
Ely (1687 points) displaced Moule (1677 points)
from second position in the series. Brooks is in
fourth place with 1670 points, ahead of Foster.
With a 61 point advantage, Caruso is in prime
position to win his first Sprintcar Allstar
championship.
