Secures Invitation And Car For Brodix Tournament Of
Champions
Little secures invitation and car for Brodix
Tournament of Champions debut this August.
Hickman, Moule and Solomon brothers possible
attendees also.
Troy Little, Darren Hickman, Chris Solomon, Tony
Moule and Paul Solomon have all secured themselves a
privileged position in the world wide 360ci
Sprintcar Racing community. They have all secured
something that can’t be bought - an invitation to
the 10th Annual Brodix Tournament of Champions event
at the famed Knoxville raceway on August 3rd.
The Brodix Tournament of Champions brings together
the best of the most prolific sprint car class in
the world - "360" Sprint Cars.
In recent times Australia’s contribution to world
wide 360 Sprintcar racing has been recognized as
being significant and that significance has grown
with a total of ten invitations being extended to
the two Australian sanctions.
Previously Brett “the jet” Milburn (2005), Garry
Chippindall (2006) and Lauren Densley (2007) have
all taken on the challenge of racing Americas best
in a class that is much more even than open 410
competition.
This year, there could be a flood of Aussies but for
one driver, the task of competing has been made just
that little bit easier.
Apart from the coveted invitation, part of the prize
for winning the combined Sprintcar Thunder/Fire
Service Plus Sprintcar All Stars series’ is the use
of a complete car ready to race, a transporter to
work from and $2,000 towards expenses. In years past
one of the biggest problems for the Aussie invitees
has been the sourcing of a suitable car to contest
the event and the cost associated with purchasing or
leasing a car for the event. This year, at least for
the winner, that issue has been resolved with
Sprintcar Thunder Series and Rolling Thunder Raceway
promoter Ray Solomon supplying the top quality
hardware. With all this on the line was it any
wonder the dual series’ were so hotly contested.
In the end it all came down to a fantastic climax in
the final round of both series last weekend (26th
April) at Milduras’ Timmis speedway. Hickman was
leading the race to Knoxville by 22 points from
Little, but there was a catch. Each driver was able
to drop their worst round result. When this factor
was taken into consideration Hickman was leading
Moule by 2 points with Little a further 10 points
adrift. Only one of these three drivers were
realistically in the hunt for the major prize.
While pre series favorite Troy Little knew his
chances of winning either series was extremely slim,
he did have a shot at the Knoxville prize and
focused his energies on this. But even then he still
needed a couple of things to fall his way.
In the final round no one could believe it when
Moule crashed out of the lead in the B-Main when he
encountered lapped traffic. That was one less hurdle
for Little and unfortunately meant that Moule was
unable to win either of the two series or the
combined prize.
Hickman though had worries of his own having to come
from the B-Main and with Little on pole for the
feature there was more nervous times ahead for the
Bendigo Bullet.
Little did all he could do, and that was to win the
feature event and let luck unfold. Hickman still
needed a reasonable finish to win the Sprintcar
Thunder Series and his seventh place finish was
enough to do that. However, in an ironic twist of
fate, despite winning both the Sprintcar Thunder and
Sprintcar All Stars series’ Hickman missed out on
the “Brodix” prize by a mere two points. Little had
stolen the Brodix prize right out from under
Hickmans feet.
